Prof. Piotr Wachowiak, Ph.D., was elected Rector of SGH Warsaw School of Economics for the 2020-2024 term. He is the current Vice Rector for Research and Management and the Head of Institute of Management at SGH.
On Wednesday, 15 April 2020, the new Rector was elected by the university electoral college through online voting. Prof. Piotr Wachowiak won against Prof. Marzenna Weresa, the incumbent Dean of the Collegium of World Economy. He will take over the reins of the university on 1 September from Prof. Marek Rocki, Ph.D. who has been leading the most prestigious Polish economic university for three terms, in the years 1999-2005 and 2016-2020.
The Rector-elect is a member of the Committee on Organizational and Management Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He graduated from the Department of Internal Commerce at the Main School of Planning and Statistics (SGPiS, now SGH) majoring in organisation and management. He has been economically active for 28 years and held managerial positions in various organisations. Among others, he was a Deputy Director of the Żoliborz District Board – member of the District Board and SGH Chancellor.
He specialises in issues related to corporate social responsibility and human resource management in organisations. He conducts research on human resource policies in businesses operating in Poland, negotiations, measurement of intellectual capital, knowledge management and CSR. He authored and co-authored many publications concerning these subjects.
He chairs the Entrepreneurship Council, an advisory body to the President of the Republic of Poland. He is a member of the “Teraz Polska” Foundation chapter, the Team for Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility at the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy and the chairman of the Working Group for University Social Responsibility. Prof. Wachowiak also founded and sits on the Scientific Council of the University of the Third Age at SGH. He presides over the Teachers’ Council of the Children's University of Economics and serves as the secretary of the Scientific Sub-Committee of the Entrepreneurship Olympiad.
